40 inspirational speeches in 2 minutes.
A big hell yeah on the Street Fighter movie (possibly the best bad movie ever made) being included.
Handwriting donated by @Christielouwho. I’m not into Ayn Rand at all - what a lonely philosophy. Christie is the most cheerful person I know who has read “The Fountainhead.”
Please donate your handwriting today.
Ayn Rand’s objectivism / rationalism is a religion for secularists.
The handwriting thing is a really cool program, though.
Johnny Cash - “Hurt”
Chills down my spine.
Oh, Saba! Just to make sure, I’d like to re-reblog this photo of you in some kind of weird fake transitional facial hair state, from the day of this photo shoot (co-starring Austin L. Ray, Web Warrior and Actual Beardo):
How proud are mama and papa Saba of their little hipster douchebag? Probably not as proud as me!
Aha, awesome! I lost this picture when my last laptop died. I think this is pretty much my favorite Paste-related picture.
On a totally unrelated note, your column on Owl City perfectly articulated the discontents I (and many others who enjoyed The Postal Service) have about that band, bravo.
an incredibly accurate chart.
luis “hipster 2006” is definitely you
Is that Mike Saba?
of course it is! he works for paste!

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - “Even Heroes Have to Die”
Promo single from TL&P’s upcoming (hardcore-influenced) Matador debut The Brutalist Bricks, out 03/09/2010. Still hungry, swaggering and filled to the brim with fuck-the-system snarl.
And what to my wondering eyes should appear but a show this Thursday at D.C.’s own Black Cat.
According to the Cato Institute (hardly a bulwark of far-left thought), every man, woman and child in the U.S. will spend more than $2,700 for the 2010 military budget. To put this in perspective, per capita spending on the military in Japan is $330, $520 in Germany and less than $100 in China.
There is no “other side” to this debate that we can prop up with a talking head on Chris Matthews’ show. These numbers are non-ideological, nonpartisan facts. And as Obama is set to take the baton of the war presidency from Bush II in Afghanistan, a fractional increase in healthcare spending has produced howls of outrage over concerns about debt and deficit.
At what point is it no longer opinion to say that this country has entered a black hole of moral nihilism? We’re about to stop circling the toilet bowl and go right down the drain.
The Mountain Goats - “Home Again Garden Grove”
I can remember when we were in high school / our dreams were like fugitive warlords
Plotting triumphant returns to the city / keeping Tec-9s tucked under the floorboards
Now we are practical men of the world / we tether our dreams to the turf
And cruise down these alleys for honey to feed them / jellyfish riding the surf
Shoving our heads straight into the guts of the stove
Home again
Garden Grove
Garden Grove
This guy’s walking down a street when he falls in a hole. The walls are so steep he can’t get out. A doctor passes by and the guy shouts up “Hey you, can you help me up?” The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole and moves on.
Then a priest comes along, and the guy shouts up “Father, I’m down in this hole! Can you help me up?” The priest writes out a prayer, throws it down in the hole and moves on.
Then a friend walks by. “Hey Joe, it’s me. Can you help me out?” And the friend jumps in the hole. The guy says “Are you stupid? Now we’re both down here.” The friend says “Yeah, but I’ve been down here before, and I know the way out.”

David Cross was hipster-bashing before hipster-bashing even existed. What a fucking hipster.
